Part 1:
Yesterday I was on a mission to order our shower enclosure. You've seen the pictures below of the shower, now imagine both walls being big glass panels. Who knew glass was so expensive! Let me enlighten you. Our shower is about 4'x5' and the glass price is 2,020 !!!! My reaction, ummm it's GLASS. It's not like I want to cover my shower in diamonds. Then the quote for the installation is $550. I asked why the instal price was so high and literally this is what the stupid guy says. "It's really heavy, so it's a lot of money."
Hey dude, it's not like you're a candlestick maker and I'm asking you to instal shower glass panels. You're a shower glass panel installer, don't you sort of plan for the glass being heavy and have some sort of way to work around that minor detail? I mean this is a lot of moolah.
Part 2:
Frank, our construction guy, sent me to this glass place (the place I'm talking about above.) They have always given him a contractors discount. They call him and tell him his price is 1800 for glass and 400 for instal. (300 dollar savings) He just tells them to give me that price, so I can save money. Then they start haggeling him about not being a licensed contractor and saying they can't give him that price anymore. why? I have no idea. They're being (insert choice word here)
So I go back down to the glass place (AZ shower door) and I try to get to the bottom of this price issue. I have learned that almost nothing in the construction industry is a solid price. There's always wiggle room. I'm armed with my best negotiation skills. They guys at az shower door are horrible and by horrible I mean (insert another choice word).
They are telling me that I have to pay retail and there's no way around that because frank is not licensed. So I say, why does it matter, it's not like it's any reflection on you and you're not hiring him for anything. The discount is just a courtesy and it's ultimately so they will bring more clients to the store. SO they are willing to lose all of franks business over $300??STUPID. plus they are being really really rude about it and mean to me. They said that they were not authorized to give me a discount and that they already gave me 10% off! To which I said "what 10% discount?" Telling someone after the fact that you gave them a discount is basically saying, you're stupid. This is why... They could give me the original price and let me walk out the door... let's say the price is 5k then when I come back and haggle, they say well we gave you 50% off. It's like, what is the original price we're working with here people. I'm not dumb. So I ask to speak with a mgr.
The mgr comes out and right of the bat he's combative asking me "so what's the problem" in his, angry, you just inturrupted my smoke break and I have 2 cross eyes sort of way. OK, a little harsh, but still he was soooo rude. It gets better and I have justification. So then I explain the situation to which he has no response other than... well frank is not licensed and you have to pay retail. We basically go through the whole above convorsation again and then he says "well we gave you 10% off already." Again, I give the analogy of the "you can say you discount anything and make it sound good, but what's the original un-doctored price speach." This is what he says folks.................."I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU ANYTHING."
Wha Wha WHAT! I seriously had steam coming from my ears. So I grabbed the paper from his hands and said really loud as I was walking out " Congratulations on your stellar customer service!" It's kinda liberating saying exactally what you want exactally when you want to.Did they really think they are the only glass place in phx? I'll take my bizz elsewhere.
I called Scott to tell him thinking he wouldn't really say anything. He amazed me, he was like "what's their names" I'm going to call. He called and spoke with the owner and let them know that "no one should talk to my wife or any customer like that" ahhhhhhhhhhhh he defended my honor. I fell in love with him again yesterday for that. He's not the type of guy to do something like that, so that ment a lot.

Love it!!!! I love picturing this conversation with you in it. I can so see it. Good for you Katy! I need you to give me lessons!
reading this story is even funnier than hearing about it. I dont have to tell you anything!
Maybe you should join Angie's list and find someone better to work with/ complain about AZ glass. Also, who ever said, "it costs so much cuz it's real heavy" obviously doesn't know what he's talking about nor does he have the real answer.
Love your title. That's one of my hubby's favorite things to say, ever!
Not so fond of those guys trying to cheapskate you though...
