Mama gets a Vacation

We're going to Chicago for the 4th of July! Does anyone understand how Chicago/The Midwest celebrates the 4th? It's like Christmas times 100.

It's magical.

We used to go every year. Visiting Scott's family, getting heat stroke from the humidity, almost killing yourself with fireworks, eating copious amounts of food including fruit pizza, real Chicago pizza, red hots, sweating out 10 lbs of liquid. Oh Chicago, I love you. I really really do.

We have a tradition of staying at the Sofitel Water Tower Hotel. Click HERE to see it.

I'm beyond excited to have a little vacation. It's the first sign that we are re-gaining momentum. Digging ourselves out of our house tragedy and starting to resume normal life. Normal life including week long 4th of July trips to Chicago.

I'm so excited, I did a little spontaneous poetry for Scott a few minutes ago.

Here it is-it's supposed to be funny, not serious btw.

My dearest Sofitel
You're renewing
Like a spring bird that promises new life

I'm sure to be born again
Through your whisky flights and late city nights
Through your heavenly bed that cushions my weary soul
Let me sit upon your bar
With my adoring husband
And drink your beauty in until it fills me up
Until we meet again Sofitel
I am yours, you beacon o' water tower.

Sofitel! Notorious Sofitel! We were supposed to go to a wedding there last August, but couldn't make it. :( We are trying to plan a trip to Chicago this summer too!!! But, Mama still wants to go to Hawaii, so it might not make the cut. One day, one day...

I'm so happy you're going to chicago for the 4th. Sad you won't make it to my bday, but you're not all that geographically available and such. Can't wait to hear stories... and maybe you could show me some pics of your Americana trip.
