I consider myself pretty darn eco concious. I drove, until about 3 months ago a Bio-Diesel Car. It's a sad story as to why I don't anymore.. but that's for another day. I recycle, I buy recycled toilet paper, rarely use paper towels. I use eco friendly detergents and cleaning products (except for my clorox wipes.) I buy organic veggies and belong to a local AZ food co-op. Ok you get the point... I do my part!
So my problem is that for the past week on NBC they've had "green week" which I think is wonderful! However, 1) on the biggest loser they did a challenge that was carrying all the cans into a "recycle bin." For the set they had 3 HUGE piles of unused pizza boxes, styrofoam doggie bags and one other thing. Does anyone find this ironic? Not to mention that 2 tons of recycled cans they used, that I doubt were used cans. Ahhhh I want to scream.
My other problem is that right now on the today show they're putting up the famous rockafeller christmas tree and they're sooo proud that they're using LCD lights and used a hand saw to cut down the 75 year old tree! That seriously makes me want to cry. A 75 yr old tree!!! I always thought it was a fake treek because it is so perfect looking, plus I didn't seriously think someone would cut down a tree like that! Ahhh tear.

OK one more thing to complain about. Again just on the today show they're talking about eco friendly fabrics. Although bamboo is a highly renewable resource when it comes to making clothes, buy organic cotton. Bamboo takes way to much processing (chemical processing) to actually make fiber, more than cotton. It's amazing to wear and super soft, but it's sort of faux eco friendly. I bought a bamboo top when I was in chicago once thinking I was being all "mother earth" and then I found that out.
So, yea, I get that sometimes I'm a bit preachy, but this is really something I'm passionate about

ew, i know what you mean about "green" week on nbc. i guess their intentions are good by spreading the word about doing your part for the environment, but the bottom line comes down to money, money, money. and yes, they chop down a real tree every year! i wonder what happens to the tree after they've used and abused it for a month. aaaand, i really do think all of those cans were already used. i'm not so sure about the pizza and takeout boxes.
Martha's daughter, Alexis Stewart, claims to be the know-it-all for eco-friendliness, and she's always knocking people who try to reuse resources one way, but abuse other resources.. ie. bamboo fabric. ew. i totally know what you mean. :*(
Tree hugger! J/K it's good your thinking about the environment, I recycle regularly does that count? I think my gas guzzling SUV kind of counter acts any good it does though. I wish I would have known the gas mileage it had before we bought it, because at 13mpg, and 3 bucks a gallon for gas it killing me! I guess I deserve it though. Don't burn my house down in retaliation. :)
hmmm, will you be my friend because I drive a prius? ;-)
This is an interesting topic. I like looking at the US vs India vs China for things like this. Our world is definitely changing, quickly.
NBC's Green Week was a miss for me. All my favorite shows are on the peacock and all they did was take their script and did a few "insert environmental message here" to satisfy the netowrk heads. I agree about Biggest Loser....why did they have to produce junk to make a point?
