I feel like a grown up

We bought stock last night. It was fun. We researched a boat load of companies and settled on a random company that I'm pretty darn sure none of you have heard of, but everyone has at least one of their products in their home right now.

The runners up for our stock baby were

Gap
Kellogg
NY & Co.
Miller/Coors
Lockheed Martin.

I was trying to think of things/products/services people still buy even during a recession. My first thought was alcohol. The alcohol industry is nearly recession proof. Oh how I still worked for Southern wine & spirits now. I was just naming off random stuff during the night. I bought some sunny-d (I have no idea why, it's not as good as I remembered), so I said, let's buy stock in Sunny-D, or Dell computers, Pickles, Ritz crackers, just random stuff like that.

Then I remembered a joke Scott and I shared a long long time ago. We said that we were going to buy stock in Trojan. So, jokingly I said "we should buy stock in Trojan." Yep, I said it just like that. So, we looked up Trojan and found out that the company that makes Trojan is sort of like a proctor & gamble like company. It's called Church & Dwight. I know, flashy right?

Turns out they make stuff like Arm & Hammer products, Aim toothpaste (which I believe my dad, single handedly keeps Aim in business.) Close-up toothpaste (which ironically enough, my mom and Rick and me up until like 5 yrs ago, kept in business.) Ahh, close-up toothpaste. It really is my favorite. They make Oxi Clean... wait, I thought that was Billy Mays? They make First response pregnancy tests, Mentident, Nair, etc...

I think the moral of this story is
1) This is a sign that I should start using close-up toothpaste again
2)Everyone should have more sex (with the trusted protection of Trojan brand condoms)
3)Everyone should have more sex to make a baby and then buy first response (or buy first response if the condom breaks (that's your business)
4)Next time you see Billy Mays on crack trying to sell you the cleaning power of oxygen, buy some.

Now go out and be that great American consumer I know you can be.

Good for you for buying stock! We made just under $20,000 in stock last year. We will NOT be making that much this year since we sold it all to pay for my schooling, yikes.

Another good product that never goes under is make-up. All during the depression the make-up industry was fine because women still bought lipstick and mascara. Gotta look nice for that walk down the dirt road right?? :-)

I never thought about buying stock by going through things that are recession proof. Maybe I'll invest in Huggies.....because for some reason I don't see people lining up to purchase clothe diapers. :)

I saw something, and I don't know where, but it made me laugh and I feel bad I can't give it full credit, but the joke was that you should start buying stock in cardboard boxes.

Okay, it's really not that funny anymore.

Thanks for the pointers! Now that you've grown up you can stop singing that Pussycat Dolls song :)
