Ladies and Gentleman, readers from around the world, I present to you, Sara

Sara was the first person I met here in Denver that I consider a friend. Sara, her husband Nate and their son Ben (Benny/Bear) lived one door down in our little apartment building. They had just moved from Austin, TX and I thought that was cool, because well, it seems like only cool people go to/come from Austin TX. My stereotype was accurate. Sara is cool.

The week we moved into our first apartment we were noticing that there were a lot of girls coming and going from this apartment down the hall. Young, cute girls, walking down the street, up the stairs, down the stairs, into the apartment, out of the apartment, etc… Scott and I didn’t yet know Sara (and Nate) or Benny for that matter, so we assumed that 4-5 girls lived in that apartment. We nicknamed that apartment “Lipstick Jungle” Then one morning I saw a guy walk out of that apartment. I assumed that he was one of Lipstick Jungle’s boyfriends and thought WOW there are a lot of people living in that little apartment.

A month or so later, Sara came over, knocked on our door and invited us over for drinks. When she told us what apartment she and Nate were in, we were confused. Turns out all those young, cute, lipstick girls were Sara’s college friends. They were staying with her for a few days and those few days just happened to be the weekend we were moving in. They were just visitors, Nate wasn’t the stud living with 4 women that we thought he was. Our little apartment world was shaken up.

Sara is from a small town in Nebraska called Brule. Population 410. Somewhere in Brule or near Brule there is a sweet nectar of the gods that is produced. Somewhere in or near Brule is the best BBQ sauce that will ever touch your lips. That BBQ sauce is like crack and Sara is my dealer. Sara, hook me up, we’ve been out of that stuff for months. You know, when you get around to it.

Sara graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2000 with a BA
THEN
Graduated from the University of Iowa in 2003 with an MA
NOW
She’ll be graduating with a PhD in Communications from the University in TX very very soon. I’ll probably have to call her Dr. Sara.

Q & A

Favorite Color? Kelly Green

What are you most proud of? I'll have to list a few things... Maturing and dealing with big, stressful events in my life with a little bit more grace and a little less drama. Writing a dissertation. Running a marathon. And last, but certainly not least, having a beautiful son who is developing into an amazing little boy. Raising my son with my loving and committed husband.

Republican or Democrat? Democrat

What's on your pizza? I'm a pizza purest - tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and garlic. That's my idea of heaven.

If you could do anything for a living what would you do? Own a used bookstore and coffee shop (but not manage it - just own it and work there and discuss current events with the patrons).

What do you love most about your husband? He's a snuggler and he often reminds me to slow down, snuggle, and relax - even if it's just a hug while we're making dinner.

Life would be easier if... My dissertation was done, I had a job, and we could afford to do some work on the house. Some day. Some day...
